Dr. Bohnert grew up in London, graduating with distinction from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor degree in Medical Biophysics. In 2009 he completed the Doctor of Optometry program at the University of Waterloo with Honours and was pleased to return home to the Forest City and join the exceptional team at Byron Optometry. Dr. Bohnert was the Clinical Director of the London TLC Laser Eye Centre from 2010 to 2012, overseeing laser vision correction consultations and post-operative care including LASIK, PRK, and other high-tech surgical options to reduce a patients' dependancy on glasses and contact lenses. He continues to provide these consultations and post-op care from the Byron Optometry office.
Before Optometry, Dr. Bohnert had the pleasure of teaching at a local high school. His passion for teaching now translates into effectively educating his patients, which he feels is an important and rewarding part of providing excellent vision care.
Dr. Patil received her Doctor of Optometry degree with honours from the University of Waterloo in 2004, where she also earned an honours Bachelors of Science degree in biology. Her optometric education was enhanced by having the opportunity to organize several eye care missions to Nepal, India, Jamaica and most recently the Phillipines. After graduation, Dr. Patil gained extensive clinical experience by training alongside several renowned ophthalmologists and by working as a primary care optometrist. She was the past clinic director of the TLC Laser Eye Centres in both Toronto and London, giving her extensive knowledge of current laser vision correction options. Dr. Patil is a member of the CAO (Canadian Association of Optometrists) and the OAO (Ontario Association of Optometrists). She frequently volunteers with the Optometry Examining Board of Canada (OEBC) to both develop and administer the exams required to enter into the practice of Optometry in Canada. Dr. Patil understands the importance of providing quality patient care, with an emphasis on patient education.When she is not in the office, Dr. Patil enjoys traveling, yoga, reading and spending time with her husband and two daughters.
After graduating from the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry in 1981, Dr. Buxton spent 3 years working as a full scope optometrist in the Waterloo region. In 1984, after her husband had finished his Master’s degree, they both moved to Zaire, Africa for 4 years (known today as the Democratic Republic of the Congo). She established and ran optical workshops that produced low-cost, custom made eye wear for the local population. She also trained nurses to perform eye exams, and assisted the surgeons during cataract and glaucoma surgery. It was a life changing experience, and she now continues to enjoy regular trips to Guyana, South America with the Canadian Vision Care team.
Dr. Buxton and her family moved to London in 1992 where she joined Dr. Dick to form Byron Optometry. She provides the full scope of comprehensive services of family and contact lens practice and also enjoys the fun and challenges of children’s eye exams. She keeps up with the latest developments in eye care by attending several optometric conferences each year and by investing in new technology for the office.
Dr. Vecchio grew up in London and lived in Byron for many years. He graduated with distinction from Western University with both a Bachelor degree in Medical Science and a Masters degree in Science. He then completed his Doctor of Optometry at the University of Waterloo with Honours. His optometry studies included an ocular health externship at Eye Centers of South Florida in Miami as well as an eye care mission to Peru to provide glasses and eye care to the local community. He is happy to be back in his hometown and his old neighbourhood providing comprehensive eye exams to the London community.
Along with being part of the Byron Optometry team, Dr. Vecchio is also the Clinical Director at TLC Laser Eye Center London and is happy to provide his extensive knowledge to anyone interested in laser eye surgery. He is a member of the Canadian and Ontario Associations of Optometrists. Out of the office Dr. Vecchio enjoys traveling, cooking, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Trisha Leis grew up in a small town in Southern Ontario. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree with honours from the University of Waterloo in 2018. She completed her undergraduate studies at UW, earning an honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Leis has trained in primary care optometry in rural settings in Ontario and Nova Scotia. She received additional experience managing ocular disease at a large ophthalmology practice in Baltimore, Maryland. During her optometry studies, Dr. Leis had the opportunity to travel to Peru on a mission trip to provide eye care and glasses to the community.
Dr. Leis is a member of the Canadian and Ontario Association of Optometrists. She is excited to join the London community and provide quality patient care and education. When out of the office, Dr. Leis enjoys travelling, swimming, reading and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Hutchinson grew up in Goderich, Ontario and earned his Bachelor of Science graduating with Honours from the University of Waterloo. He then moved to Chicago to obtain his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry graduating with Honours.
Dr. Hutchinson has gained a great deal of experience in corneal diseases, contact lens fittings, and dry eye management from his internship at the Centre for Cornea and Contact Lens Excellence in Chicago. Furthermore, he has received extensive training in the diagnosis, management and treatment of ocular diseases while completing his training at the Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Hospital in Michigan as well as the Illinois Eye Institute Advanced Care Clinic. It was here that he received his training in the use of oral and ocular therapeutics and is licensed to prescribe these in Ontario. He is board certified to practice in Canada as well as the United States.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son as well as exercising and playing sports.
